Tobacco Road is a bluegrass band based in North Carolina/ Southern Virginia. Its members are veteran musicians who have spent their lives steeped in the high-lonesome sound of Appalachian tradition. The band is named in honor of the geographical and historical significance of tobacco farming in the south, not to mention the “Tobacco Road” college rivalries stretching from NC State to Wake Forest.
Drawing on decades of collective experience, the members of Tobacco Road deliver a sound that is both time-honored and full of life—tight harmonies, blazing instrumentals, and heartfelt storytelling. Whether they’re picking through an Alison Krauss or Stanley Brothers tune or even offering up an original song that speaks to love, loss, and life in the South, Tobacco Road plays with the kind of soul that only comes from years on stage and in the studio.
Each member brings a unique background to the group, from national festival stages to local jam circles. Yet, they share a love for traditional bluegrass and its modern evolutions. Their shows celebrate North Carolina’s cultural legacy, connecting audiences to the past while keeping the music fresh and energetic.
Whether playing a sold-out festival or an intimate back porch gathering, Tobacco Road brings the spirit of bluegrass home.
